Don’t get too busy for God!

“Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭38‬-‭42‬ ‭ESV‬‬

1) Make sure you’re welcoming Jesus into your house. The Scripture says we are Gods temple.

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Welcoming Jesus is gladly receiving Him, His counsel and His will.

2) Don’t be too busy to sit at the Lord’s feet, read His Word and sit under It’s teachings. It is necessary.

Let’s not get distracted from doing that. When we get distracted away from God, His teachings and His will, we get anxious and troubled about many things.

3) Choose the good portion.

There’s a reason why Jesus specifically used the word portion in this.

If you look up portion, from the olden days, It means property or money brought by a bride to her husband on their marriage. We, the church, are Christs bride and He bought us at a price (1 Cor. 6:20). So we are His property and we are to give ourselves (bring ourselves) to Him as He gave Himself for us. He used the word portion to display this.

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭73‬:‭26‬ ‭ESV‬

The really cool thing about this relationship is that it goes both ways! Not only is Jesus our portion forever, but we are also blessed and privileged to be His portion forever as well!

“But the Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted heritage.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭32‬:‭9‬ ‭ESV‬‬
