One word...FRUIT!
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
Galatians 5:22-24 ESV
So the fruit of the spirit is evidence of a Spirit-Filled life.
And the true test of a Spirit-Filled life is the fruit it displays on a day-to-day basis regardless of other peoples actions, regardless of environment & regardless of circumstances.
I think it’s important to understand that one of the main differences between the GIFTS of the Spirit & the FRUIT of the Spirit is that while the Spirit gives certain GIFTS to certain people, not every person has every GIFT. But with FRUIT, EVERY Fruit of the Spirit should be evident in EVERY person who belongs to Christ Jesus.
So I want to encourage you to study this Scripture & to judge your own fruit. If you find an area you’re lacking in, bring that to focus in your next prayer time.
So in closing I have 2 encouragements for you:
1) Don’t not let your fruit rot! The Scripture in the next chapter of Galatians says:
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9 ESV
Your fruit won’t rot if you don’t grow weary of doing good & you don't give up!
2) Don’t be a basket of fake fruit where you’re just pretending. Submit to God & be the real deal. If you're pretending, you're relying on your own strength & eventually you'll run out of steam & fail.
So how do we not grow weary, not give up & be the real deal? We stay strong in the Lord (relying on God's strength) by reading His Word, praying, going to church, avoiding conversations, environments, activities & yes, even people that draw bad fruit out of us.
If we don't attend to ourselves & make sure we're right with God & doing His will, how can we be an example to others & minister to those in our circles without having the Fruit of the Spirit? Simply put, we can't.
I pray this message encourages you & helps you in your walk with Christ.
