Has Thanksgiving Become Just Another Day?

Has Thanksgiving become just another day on the calendar for you? It doesn’t have to be!
I used to believe that Thanksgiving was all about the big gatherings—the more, the merrier, right? Growing up, I thought the day wasn’t complete without a table packed with relatives and more food than we could possibly eat! But a life of faith has a way of reshaping our perspectives.
These days, our Thanksgiving celebrations look a little different. In fact, as I write this, it’s just Anita and me in the kitchen, prepping our Thanksgiving meal. No big crowd, no extended family—just us. Yet, we aren’t alone. Our most important guest is here, dwelling within us: our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Over the years, I’ve realized that Thanksgiving isn’t about how many people gather around the table or even about the food itself. Instead, it’s about WHO we’re gathered with and the posture of our heart.
Why do I say posture? Because posture isn’t just about how we sit or stand. It also means our attitude or approach to something. And as Christians, we are called to have an “attitude of gratitude,” not just for the blessings we have, but for the One who provides them.
The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
So this Thanksgiving, whether your table is overflowing with people, or it’s quiet with yourself or just one loved one, take time to reflect on the posture of your heart. Let’s shift our position of thinking and focus on the abundance of God’s love, grace, and provision rather than what we think we lack.
Now, I need to get to this food on the table and Anita and I will be shifting our posture into the eating position!
The food in the photo is what we made for our feast!
Happy Thanksgiving and may your heart be full of gratitude and your soul filled with His peace!
