Today, right now, we live in a fast-paced world running over with instant gratification that waiting can very easily be viewed as frustrating & an unwelcome experience. We want things to happen now & on our terms!
Beloved, if you catch yourself feeling this way, consider that you might have removed your focus from Jesus & put it on the things, circumstances or people that you’re waiting on or waiting for!
So grab your Bible, coffee or tea, & let’s get into the Word & transform our thinking about waiting & put our focus back on Jesus!
“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Psalms 27:13-14 NIV
Notice in this verse that after seeing the goodness of the Lord is mentioned, we are told to wait…not once, but twice!
If we want to see the goodness of the Lord, we must wait on Him!
On a side note, as a chef, there’s a saying I know well!
“Fast food isn’t fresh & fresh food isn’t fast!”
If you want the real good stuff, you need to wait!
So back on track here - what does waiting on the Lord look like?
1. It’s having patience
The Bible talks about patience a lot! The key here is to not view patience as dealing with delays, but rather a virtue that strengthens us as we learn to trust in God's timing.
2. It’s trusting in God's sovereignty
We may not always understand why certain things happen, but we can trust God & know that His plan is greater than our own. This trust will provide comfort in times of confusion & uncertainty.
3. It’s finding purpose in the wait
The period of waiting can feel like wasted time, but it’s not! That’s what the enemy wants us to think! Waiting on the Lord is a season of purposeful growth. Maybe God is teaching us to be content with what we have right now! Maybe we’re not ready for what we’re asking for from Him. Maybe He has something better for us than what we’re asking for from Him! And so on & so forth.
So in your season of waiting, be patient, trust God’s sovereignty & seek His purpose in your waiting!
