You are the salt of…

Hey family & friends! It's a beautiful Saturday today!

I'm about to have lunch after this post! I made my chicken bacon ranch pasta & veggies Thursday night & I have to tell you it's one of my favorite dishes! Here's a pic of my plate!

So in cooking, my most often used seasoning is...yup...you guessed it...salt!

So what's so great about salt?

Well, salt has many attributes, but I want to talk about 3 of them really quick!

Let's do it!

  1. Salt adds flavor!

I actually looked up the definition of flavor & one of the definitions really struck a chord with me...

"An indication of the essential character of something."

2. Salt preserves!

Salt preserves by reducing water content & disrupting the growth of bacteria.

And...

3. Salt makes people thirsty!

So what does this have to do with us? Why does Matthew 5:13 say we are the salt of the earth?

It's so very important to understand the qualities of something when the Word of God compares our spiritual lives to it...such as salt!

So as Christians, we are to add flavor to our circle! In other words, going back to that flavor definition but changing the word something to someone…

For us, it's an indication of the essential character of SOMEONE. That someone is Jesus Christ! We are to have & add the flavor of Christ...or have & add the character of Christ to our circles.

We are preservers! We have the Spirit of God (The Holy Spirit) residing in us! That means when unbelievers are in our presence, the growth of "spiritual bacteria" is disrupted from them! We are to use that time with unbelievers to teach them & show them the flavor/character of Christ!

And finally, as salt makes people thirst, our lives should make people thirst for Christ!

Unbelievers should wonder why we don't sin in our anger. They should wonder why we don't worry. They should wonder why we're not anxious for anything. They should wonder why we have peace that surpasses all understanding & they should wonder why we're so full of joy! If our lives have this fruit, they should thirst for it! Our lives should cause them to thirst for Jesus Christ!

So beloved, this is why we are the salt of the earth!

And to personalize it even more, to really zone in on your circle, I would like you to say this to yourselves & finish the sentence with maybe your workplace. Maybe you're part of a hobby group & you can finish the sentence with that & so on & so forth...

I AM THE SALT OF.......

I was told to cut down in salt for my heart. People can get too “salty” when simple heart-healing kindness (gentle food) is needed.
